Our youngest came home from university in Glasgow yesterday and we sat at the dining table catching up with his news and his thoughts about his future studies. During all the chat he pointed out a serious error in one of my early blogs – it’s not Heideggger’s cat it’s Schrödinger’s.
Heidegger was the metaphysics philosopher who wrote Being and Time in 1927, a seminal work on existential phenomenology.
Whereas Schrödinger was a physicist who came up with a thought experiment in 1935 regarding quantum superpositions. His thought experiment was intended to show the absurdity of believing that a cat could be in two states at the same time – alive and dead.
His thought experiment is still being used to illustrate interpretations of quantum mechanics.
